Information technology services can’t be one size fits all. Your company’s success depends on the most efficient assistance. ICC’s Leadership Development Academy offers cost-effective, specialized development teams to maximize your processes, methodologies and technology — for immediate results in moving your business forward.

ICC’s constant commitment to delivering value for our clients drove us to create the Leadership Development Academy in 2007. The Academy serves as a pipeline producing the industry’s sharpest young talent, keeping them in Ohio and bringing new jobs to the state.

The Leadership Development Academy is a 3-month business and technical program for recent university graduates. Through structured professional and technical training, combined with project experience and mentoring, the Academy builds the competence and confidence of new consultants.

Adding Value and Reducing Costs in Client Engagements

ICC clients benefit from the unique value and strategic partnership of the Leadership Development Academy, which trains and equips ICC’s newest consultants to serve clients with greater efficiency and cost. After immersion in the intense business and technical training, the Academy graduates smoothly and confidently transition to client project work.

The learning cycle is further supported by subject matter experts who provide mentorship and a safety net to ensure each graduate achieves the consistent quality standards of their ICC peers. For ICC clients, the Leadership Development Academy is a critical resource and ally in providing quality, cost-effective business solutions.

“These graduates come to us out of college as the best in their class, and build targeted business and technical skills through the Academy. Their enthusiasm to learn and understand the next level of business acumen is exciting to witness,” says Scot Burdette, ICC Vice President for Application and Integration Sevices, who has observed how out-of-state businesses rely on ICC’s teams of young talent paired with senior leadership. “This training is an investment we make in them on behalf of the client, so it’s a win for all three of us.”

To learn how the Leadership Development Academy brings extended benefits to our clients, visit ICC’s Training Investment information page.

Retaining Ohio’s young talent

While facing difficult competitive offshore enterprises, ICC has thrived by emphasizing efficient, creative, face-to-face service. Finding the best young talent to provide that service is another challenge, because of a persistent shortage of skilled college graduates.

“The supply is as tight as I’ve ever seen it,” said Rick Ritzler, ICC Vice President of Recruiting, who has worked in that field for nearly 15 years. “We want to build and train the workforce of tomorrow, not just cherry-pick experienced people – because you can’t find enough ready talent today, and every projection you see only implies that this will get worse.”

ICC’s Leadership Development Academy is that magnet to attract and retain Ohio’s top graduates in computer information systems (CIS) and management information systems (MIS). The Academy ensures an early career jump-start that focuses on the individual’s unique skills and goals.

Several graduates who were raised in Ohio said the Academy attracted them to work for ICC and stay in the state. “I like working locally for a global company and having a little bit more freedom to do what I want and decide the direction of where I want to go,” said Phoebe Hyder, who grew up in Westerville, graduated from Miami University in computer science in 2008 and is now a .NET developer.

Tony Brown, who grew up in Jonesboro, graduated from Ohio Northern University in computer engineering in 2009 and immediately had a job offer in Chicago. “The same day, I got a call from ICC,” said Brown, now an ICC software developer and engineer. “I’m a big fan of Columbus, and it’s actually a big tech city. I liked what I saw at ICC and wanted to stay. It was an ironic twist coming to ICC, because an opportunity came up on one of my early client projects at ICC to consult in Australia for a few months, and so I have been lucky to experience both local and global engagements so quickly in my career.”

For more information about the Leadership Development Academy and how it can relate to your career, visit ICC’s Leadership Development Academy information page.

In his article Applying Agile Methods to Data Warehouse Projects, Jim discusses how Agile methods can be applied to the building of analytical databases — data warehouses, data marts, operational data stores, etc. When the work associated with designing the databases and integrating the data is driven from the business side, project costs can be held to a minimum and business value can be delivered more quickly.

Information Control Corporation, the largest privately-held IT Professional Services provider in Ohio, announces the US General Services Administration (GSA) has exercised its option to extend its IT Schedule 70 for a further period of 5 years. IT Schedule 70 automates the ordering activities of Information Technology services by Federal, State and Local Agencies.

“The GSA IT Schedule 70 is a powerful mechanism for accelerated adoption of technology by the US Federal Government and other public sector organizations,” says Dave Dieterle, VP Government Services, ICC. “The GSA contract streamlines the purchasing process for public sector clients to secure Information Technology expertise at the right price.”

The General Services Administration touts its IT Schedule 70 program as the largest, most widely used acquisition vehicle in the federal government, providing government agencies a ready means to obtain innovative information technology products and services. The GSA program provides easy compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and allows strategic partners like ICC to collaborate on contractor team arrangements.

The ICC service offerings fulfilled through the GSA IT Schedule 70 range from individual expertise to teamed engagements managing the complete software development life cycle of large projects. ICC envisions innovative solutions using emerging technologies, then integrates the technology, knowledge and processes to give government agencies efficient and effective public service through Application Development, Business Intelligence, Digital Interactive Services, Microsoft Technologies and Project Management

Additionally, ICC holds a long history of on time and on budget delivery of projects within state and local governments, including the State of Ohio. Since the establishment of ICC’s State Term Schedule with the State of Ohio in 2002, ICC has won and delivered strategic Information Technology project work and consulting across more than twenty-five State of Ohio organizations.

“With tight budgets, government organizations are increasingly relying on technology to improve the quality of public services to citizens and businesses while also increasing efficiencies within their organizations,” continues Dieterle. “Government agencies are looking to companies like ICC to initiate, design and deploy successful business and technology solutions that enable them to do more with less. ICC is pleased to have contract vehicles in place like the GSA contract and Ohio’s State Term Schedule to assist our public sector clients with these critical IT initiatives.”

About GSA (www.gsa.gov)

The United States General Services Administration (GSA) was established by President Harry Truman in 1949, to streamline the administrative work and oversee the business of the US federal government. GSA delivers products, services, and policies to its federal customers through the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) and other government offices. GSA’s acquisition solutions supply federal purchasers with cost-effective high-quality products and services from commercial vendors.

About Information Control Corporation (www.iccohio.com)

Information Control Corporation is the largest privately-held IT Professional Services provider in Ohio. Headquartered for over 15 years in Columbus, ICC employs 500 individuals in the Information Technology space and serves as a leader in solving business issues in IT within the government and commercial sectors. ICC has developed nationally recognized practice areas, including Business Intelligence, Application Development, Microsoft Technologies and other competencies strategic to today’s businesses.

Gone are the days of long, painful STSADM batch files – we have Windows PowerShell, and it’s here to stay. Leveraging the Object Model gives Administrators and Developers the ability to do in a few lines of code what would’ve taken a lot more work (and probably a Developer or two) in the WSS platform. You’ll see how you can get started with PowerShell, and you will leave with not only a greater understanding of what PowerShell is – but what it is capable of and how you can start using it to automate tasks in your SharePoint 2010 environment.
